Asian Steak Salad

Found a very nice piece of fillet mignon in a supermarket and pan-fried it.
Since I had left-over cilantro, I decided to make a steak salad somewhat Asian using rice vinegar, lemon and sesame oil for dressing.

Broiled Black Cod

I have not been able to find black cod fish in American supermarket stores. It is oily fish but very tasty and I wish I could find it in usual supermarkets which is much more convenient.

The fish always has been associated with happy occasions and celebrations in Japanese culture. One of seven Japanese deities has the fish in his hand and he brings good fortune and wealth to people. Japanese Tea Time

My tea ceremony teacher gave me homemade yomogi mochi (yomogi is a kind of Japanese herb) The one wrapped with Nori (seaweed) is called "Isobe mochi" and the mochi is coated with soy sauce. Other one is with sweet red beans. They are typical but so good and certainly hit the spot for me!

Ramen Noodle

Ramen noodle is one of Japanese all time favorites. There are many very good noodle houses throughout Japan and some of them are so famous that people make a long line trying to get in.
When you eat it at home, toppings can be your choice. Today I put slices of Kamaboko (fish cake), seaweed, bean sprouts, scallions, and quail eggs.

Japanese Sweet - Sakura Mochi

This is a seasonal Japanese sweet. It is wrapped with a cherry blossom leave which has a very distinctive aroma. It is the height of the cherry blossom (Sakura) season in Tokyo around this time of the year. People enjoy picnics under beautiful blooming cherry trees (called "Ohanami") bringing lots of goodies to eat and sake to drink.
